The Global Alzheimer’s Platform Foundation (GAP) thanks the First Lady for the grace and dignity she showed before and after President Carter’s term, and even more so these past six months after bravely announcing her dementia diagnosis. We join many around the world mourning her loss while acknowledging her quiet, positive impact over her 96 years.
A champion for human rights and mental health reform, Mrs. Carter showed compassion for her fellow citizen. She redefined the role of the President’s spouse and proved that post-presidency efforts can solidify a legacy just as much as a presidential term can. The devotion that she and former President Jimmy Carter had for each other and to all those in need, set an inspiring precedent that has changed the White House and political landscape.
