Global Alzheimer’s Platform Foundation Welcomes Hawaii Pacific Neuroscience to its Global Network

International non-profit expands research network to Hawaii to improve access to research opportunities

Washington D.C., May. 13, 2025- Global Alzheimer’s Platform Foundation ® (GAP) announces the addition of Hawaii Pacific Neuroscience a leading private clinical research organization based in Honolulu, Hawaii, to its global network of over 100 best-in-class research sites. Hawaii Pacific Neuroscience addresses the critical gap in access to cutting-edge clinical research for neurodegenerative diseases as one of Hawaii’s leading providers of neuroscience care and a global leader in research and advancing innovations in neuroscience.

Hawaii Pacific Neuroscience is made up of a more than 20 different disease-specific, “one stop shop” centers of excellence provided by an interdisciplinary collaborative team, with a team dedicated to providing clinical research options as part of this comprehensive approach. Native Hawaiians and Pacific Islanders face a disproportionately high risk of dementia, and Hawaii Pacific Neuroscience’s mission is to partner and work with international and local institutions to advance the care and research of neurological conditions in Hawaii like Alzheimer’s disease.

“GAP is pleased to expand our network to Hawaii with the addition of Hawaii Pacific Neuroscience in Honolulu,” said GAP President John Dwyer. “We are looking forward to collaborating with the team at Hawaii Pacific Network to expand innovative clinical trial opportunities on the island and support their work to improve brain health education and access to cutting edge CNS research.”

Hawaii Pacific Neuroscience joins more than 100 clinical research sites that make up the GAP network, GAP-Net, which improves clinical trial implementation by sharing data and best practices across sites, so trials can proceed more quickly, accelerating neurodegenerative research and improving the participant experience. GAP partners with both private and academic/institutional research sites to find cures and treatments for Alzheimer’s and Parkinson’s disease.

There are 6.7 million Americans living with 1 Alzheimer’s disease and that’s expected to more than double to 13.8 million people by 2060. In Hawaii, it is estimated that over 11% of the population is currently living with Alzheimer’ disease, and that number is expected to grow dramatically in the future. The only way to find treatments and cures for this disease is through clinical trials.
