K2 Medical Research Providence Seeking Participants for Observational Study

K2 Now Enrolling in Innovative Study of Alzheimer’s Blood and Digital Biomarker Tests; Research Volunteers Receive No-Cost Brain Scan and Learn About Their Brain Health

East Providence, RI- Jan 12, 2026 K2 Medical Research in Rhode Island has started enrolling volunteers with memory concerns in the Global Alzheimer’s Platform Foundation® (GAP)’s innovative Bio-Hermes-002 Study to help identify blood, and digital biomarkers that may predict the presence of amyloid plaques or tau tangles in the brain.  These plaques and tangles are the hallmarks of Alzheimer’s disease.

“The Bio-Hermes-002 study provides a meaningful opportunity for community members to receive a study-related brain scan at no cost, while contributing to important advances in Alzheimer’s research,” said Dr. Daniel Sacchetti, GAP-Net Site Investigator and local neurologist. “Because the study evaluates a range of brain-health assessments, participants will also gain valuable information about their own cognitive well-being. We warmly encourage individuals from all racial, ethnic, and cultural backgrounds to take part in this groundbreaking effort so its findings can better serve and strengthen every community.”

The study is evaluating Alzheimer’s assessment tools in a way that is sensitive and specific to all individuals. Therefore, enrollment for Bio-Hermes-002 will remain open until at least 25% of the participants are from traditionally understudied and underserved populations (i.e., Black, Hispanic, Asian, Pacific Islander, etc).

Bill Menard, Managing Partner at K2 Medical Research in East Providence shared, “Our understanding of Alzheimer’s disease has come a long way in the past 15 years, and we stand at a point in time where we can finally slow its progression; however, we still have much to learn if we are going to stop the disease. Bio-Hermes-002 offers an opportunity for the field to further our understanding of the biological risk factors and determinants of disease progression that will help us take the next steps towards making Alzheimer’s disease a curable and preventable illness for future generations. This is an opportunity for the community at large to help advance the field by contributing to the scientific community’s understanding of Alzheimer’s and join the fight against a relentless disease that impacts millions of people on a daily basis.”

Volunteers must have a diagnosis of Alzheimer’s disease, be between 60 and 90 years old and have someone who can participate with them as a study partner. The study requires four visits to the research center and three visits to a local imaging facility over the course of three months, with a possible follow-up phone call (if needed).  Volunteers will receive study related brain scans at no-cost to them and learn more about their brain health. There are no medications involved in this study.

Those interested in learning more about the Bio-Hermes-002 Study and volunteering should contact K2 Medical Research at 401-955-5252 to see if they are eligible. ?
