John enjoyed a career ensuring the protection of historically and environmentally significant land, threatened by urban and industrial development. While retired, he continues to be involved in research involving breeding bird surveys and marsh monitoring, and also is a curler, a reader and an avid cross-country skier, and certified wine judge! He now takes on the role of volunteer after receiving an Alzheimer’s diagnosis in June of 2021.
His kind, knowledgeable and giving nature has spurred him to take his research background and apply it to his current situation. He has a strong passion for science and moving science forward. He had no hesitation about joining a research trial when he received his diagnosis. His quote on the day he was diagnosed and introduced to research was “sign me up”. It did not matter what trial, where there was an open label, or if he received placebo. He just wanted to help.
