Story by Amy Scherzer, Bay Correspondent
Tearful yet joyful, the annual Inspire, Imagine & Hope Gala honored Tampa neurologist Dr. Susan Steen for her 40-plus years advancing brain health education and leading clinical trials for Alzheimer’s disease, Parkinson’s disease and multiple sclerosis. Gala co-chairs Lyle Fogarty and Dr. Shannon Moroney shared the personal impact of Alzheimer’s on their families, noting that Florida has the nation’s second-highest number of seniors living with the disease. Tracy and Tom Hayes offered insights from both sides of the illness — first losing her mother and now facing Tom’s diagnosis together. The March 27 gala, “Making Waves for a Cure,” netted $780,000 in support of the Alzheimer’s Association’s Florida Gulf Coast chapter.
